Bisakah Anda menjadi seorang workaholic yang sehat?

Menjadi seorang workaholic sangat melelahkan baik fisik maupun mental. Selalu bekerja dan bekerja membuat tubuh dan mental selalu aktif walaupun tanpa disadari Anda membutuhkan istirahat. Stress, depresi, tekanan darah yang seringkali melonjak adalah beberapa efek buruk pada kesehatan yang akan dirasakan seorang workaholic.

Selain itu kehidupan sosial yang parah, keluarga yang terabaikan adalah dampak dari kebiasaan gila kerja. Sebuah penelitian bahkan membuktikan bahwa pasangan yang workaholic memiliki kemungkinan untuk bercerai lebih besar dari mereka yang bisa menyeimbangkan kehidupan mereka.

1. Ubah prioritas hidup

2. Benahi manajemen kerja Anda.


Setiap karyawan telah memiliki job desc-nya masing-masing. Kerjakanlah apa yang menjadi tugas Anda saja, tidak perlu sungkan untuk menolak pekerjaan tambahan lain jika Anda merasa tidak sanggup atau dirasa menganggu pekerjaan pokok Anda. Atur semuanya berdasarkan skala prioritas supaya Anda lebih fokus dalam mengerjakannya. Benahi juga jam kerja Anda. 3. Asupan gizi yang seimbang dan menyehatkan


Berpikir dan bekerja membutuhkan energi yang besar. Imbangi tenaga yang dikeluarkan dengan asupan makanan yang cukup dengan kebutuhan tubuh Anda dan seimbang. Hindari fast food walaupun ini adalah pilihan termudah bagi para workaholic. Perbanyaklah minum air putih untuk mencegah dehidrasi. Kopi atau minuman berkafein lainnya memang dapat mempertahankan konsentrasi dan menjaga stamina, terutama saat lembur, namun ingatlah bahwa kafein yang berlebihan dapat menimbulkan peningkatan tekanan darah, perasaan cemas, gelisah.


4. Olahraga ringan dan cukup tidur.


Sekedar stretching ringan seperti menggerakkan kepala atau merenggangkan otot dapat membantu tubuh menjadi rileks. Belilah alat-alat olahraga yang dapat digunakan sembari bekerja yang banyak dijual di pasaran. Kemudian luangkan waktu untuk tidur. Penelitian menyebutkan bahwa tidur siang selama 20-30 menit dapat menjaga Anda tetap terjaga pada malam hari dan mengembalikan energi.

Ada suatu ungkapan bahwa sesuatu yang berlebihan itu tidak baik. Pun demikian dengan bekerja. Anda harus tahu batasannya karena tubuh Anda memiliki biology time-nya sendiri. Tidur Siang Untuk Produktifitas Kerja

Tidur siang bisa meningkatkan productivitas. Benarkah? Kedengarannya bertolak belakang dengan pemahaman dan praktek yang dilakukan selama ini. Bukankah selama ini kita di’doktrin’ dengan pemikiran untuk memanfaatkan setiap waktu yang ada, termasuk jam makan siang dan setelah jam kerja, untuk meningkatkan productivitas dan kinerja kerja Rasanya tidak terbayangkan jika harus tidur siang di sela-sela waktu aistirahat. Alih-alih dianggap sebagai usaha untuk boosting productivity, bisa-bisa saya dianggap pemalas, mungkin itu yang ada di pikiran Anda.

Mengapa sebaiknya tidur siang?


Sebuah fakta yang diujarkan Dr. Sara C. Mednik dalam bukunya “Take a Nap! Change Your Life” justru menganjurkan untuk tidur siang. Menurut beliau, tidur siang membantu proses memori, kesiagaan dan belajar hal baru. Hal-hal penting yang dibutuhkan dalam menjalankan pekerjaan sehari-hari. Terlebih lagi jika waktu tidur malam kurang dari waktu yang direkomendasikan yaitu 8 jam. NASA juga menyetujui hal yang sama. Penelitian mereka menunjukkan bahwa tidur siang selama 26 menit bisa meningkatkan performa sebanyak 34%.
Sebuah penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa power nap selama 20 menit di siang hari memberikan tubuh kesempatan untuk berisitrahat lebih baik dibandingkan tidur dengan waktu yang sama di pagi hari. Naturally, tubuh mulai merasakan kelelahan setelah terjaga selama 8 jam, karena itulah tidur siang merupakan saat yang tepat untuk mengembalikan kesegaran tubuh.


Berapa lama sebaiknya Anda tidur siang?


Banyak pakar yang menyarankan untuk tidur selama 15 – 30 menit. Akan tetapi sebuah riset juga menyebutkan bahwa tidur siang selama 1 jam akan memberikan dampak perbaikan dan peningkatan fungsi kognitif lebih baik dari tidur siang hanya selama 30 menit. Namun tentunya hal ini harus disesuaikan dengan waktu yang Anda miliki. Jika waktu yang tersisa hanya 15 menit, manfaatkanlah untuk tidur. Cobalah untuk memejamkan mata dan rileks hingga Anda terlelap. Rileks membantu untuk mengurangi stress dan menyegarkan pikiran Anda. Di kota-kota besar di Spanyol, banyak restoran yang menyediakan tempat bagi karyawan untuk tidur sejenak setelah makan siang. Sudah sejak lama tidur siang jadi kebiasaan masyarakat di kota-kota di Eropa. Mulai banyak manajemen perusahaan yang memperhatikan kebutuhan tidur siang karyawan karena lagi-lagi sebuah penelitian membuktikan kalau pekerja yang terlalu lelah bisa merugikan perusahaan hingga USA $150 milyar karena productivitas yang berkurang.


Bagaimana di Indonesia?


Di Indonesia rasanya belum ada perusahaan yang menerapkan kebijakan untuk tidur siang. Alhasil, karyawan harus pandai-pandai memanfaatkan waktu istirahat yang ada untuk tidur siang. Karena waktu terbaik untuk tidur siang adalah sekitar jam 1 – 3 siang, cobalah untuk menyisihkan waktu setelah makan siang untuk memejamkan mata sejenak, walaupun waktu yang tersisa hanya 5 menit. Padamkan lampu ruangan atau carilah ruangan yang minim cahaya dan suara karena kedua faktor ini membantu untuk terlelap lebih cepat.


Jika Anda tidak memiliki waktu sama sekali untuk tidur siang atau merasa tidak nyaman melakukannya di tengah hingar bingar kantor, cobalah untuk melakukan meditasi. Hal ini memberikan kesempatan bagi tubuh untuk istirahat dan membantu memproduksi gelombang otak yang sama seperti saat kita tidur.

Before you embark on an office romance and fall head over heals for a co-worker or the boss, consider these musical words of warning.

1. "Love's Got a Hold on You": Any romance can be distracting, never mind an office romance. When the object of your affection works with you, you may find yourself gazing at your sweetheart instead of tending to your job responsibilities.

2. "Looking Through the Eyes of Love": An office romance can complicate the relationship between boss and subordinate. It changes your working relationship significantly. Offering criticism, or receiving it, can be difficult. You may not be able to, or want to, look critically at your significant other's work and you might not be receptive to his or her critiques of your work.

3. "Love is a Battlefield": A disagreement at home will find its way to the office and a disagreement at the office will find its way home.

4. "Prisoner of Love": You might stay in an office romance longer than you want to because you are afraid of damaging your working relationship.

5. "Breaking Up is Hard to Do": You shouldn't stay in a bad relationship, but your fears that ending it will damage your working relationship are realistic. Breakups are hard in general, but seeing your ex everyday can be grueling, even if both of you handle things in the best way possible.

Sometimes love can't be denied. If your feelings about a co-worker are so strong that you can't deny them any longer, in spite of the warnings you just read, remember, "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." Five Things Not to Do When You Leave Your Job

Leaving a job is often upsetting, whether you were fired or finally decided to quit. You may have trouble remembering to do the right thing. Here are five things you should avoid doing.

1. Don’t tell off your boss and co-workers, even if you think they deserve it.
When you leave your job, your emotions may be running high, especially if you are leaving on bad terms. You may want to tell your boss or co-workers what you really think of them. Don’t do it, even if they truly deserve it. You never know who you will meet down the road and who you may have to work with one day.

2. Don’t damage company property or steal something.
You may feel you were mistreated by your employer and you may be really angry. However, vandalism and theft are criminal offenses. Not only will your professional repution be damaged by your actions, you could end up in jail.

3. Don’t forget to ask for a reference.
This may sound like an odd thing to consider if you are leaving your job on unfavorable terms. However, you will have to include this job on your resume, so you should try to make sure you get either a good or, at least, a neutral reference. If you’ve been fired because of some horrible offense, this may be a moot point. However if your parting is due to something less serious, you may be able to ask your boss for a reference, in spite of the fact that “things didn’t work out as expected.”

4. Don’t badmouth your employer or any of your co-workers to your replacement.
First of all, it will only look like sour grapes, so there’s nothing to gain here. Second, your successor will figure things out for himself or herself. Third, it may have been bad chemistry, and your co-worker will have a totally different experience than you did.

5. Don’t badmouth your employer to a prospective employer when you go on a job interview.
The only person who this will make look bad is you. Your prospective boss will wonder what caused your relationship with your prior employer to sour and will suspect that you could have been at fault.

Jalan Kuno Jerusalem Berusia 1.500 Tahun Ditemukan






Badan arkeologi Israel, Rabu (10/2/2010), menemukan sebuah jalan di kota Jerusalem Lama, yang menjadi pusat urat nadi perekonomian dan perdagangan sekitar 1.500 tahun yang lalu.

"Hari ini kami telah mengeluarkan sejumlah artefak arkeologi pada kedalaman 4,5 meter di bawah permukaan jalan. Banyak temuan yang membuat kami gembira. Kami menemukan lembaran lantai besar yang kemungkinan adalah sebuah jalan pada masa lalu," kata Ofer Sion, Direktur Penggalian Otoritas Kepurbakalaan Israel.



Menurut IAA, sejumlah artefak kuno juga ditemukan di situs penggalian tersebut.

"Ini kemungkinan sebuah jalan besar yang merupakan jalur sibuk atau jalan urat nadi utama ketika Jerusalem menjadi kota Kristen. Ini luar biasa. Jalan Daud ternyata menyimpan begitu banyak cerita, begitu banyak perjalan kehidupan manusia yang menarik, yang melewati jalan yang dibangun sekitar 1.500 tahun lalu ini," kata Sion.

Artefak kuno ini digali sesuai peta mosaik kuno. Peta tersebut ditemukan di sebuah gereja Jordania yang saat ini dikenal sebagai Peta Madaba. Peta tersebut menggambarkan tanah suci pada masa Bizantium.

  • The Panel Interview

In a panel interview, the candidate is interviewed by several people at once. Although it can be quite intimidating, you should try to remain calm. Try to establish rapport with each member of the panel. Make eye contact with each one as you answer his or her question.


  • The Stress Interview

The stress interview is not a very nice way to be introduced to the company that may end up being your future employer. It is, however, a technique employers sometimes use to weed out candidates who cannot handle adversity. The interviewer may try to artificially introduce stress into the interview by asking questions so quickly that the candidate doesn't have time to answer each one. Another interviewer trying to introduce stress may respond to a candidate's answers with silence. The interviewer may also ask weird questions, not to determine what the job candidate answers, but how he or she answers.

According to Interviewing by The National Business Employment Weekly (John Wiley and Sons, 1994), the job candidate should first "recognize that you're in the situation. Once you realize what's happening, it's much easier to stay calm because you can mentally re-frame the situation. Then you have two choices: Play along or refuse to be treated so poorly." If you do play along, the book recommends later finding out if the reason for conducting a stress interview is legitimate. That will determine if this is a company for whom you want to work.

10 Tips for Writing a Professional Résumé

1. Start with an attractive layout. Use bold and italics to highlight key points. I do not recommend downloadable templates because they are very generic and dull. Get creative but not crazy. You can use a little touch of color if you are modest.

2. Justify the text instead of using left align. Most people are accustomed to reading justified text. This will make your résumé easy to follow.

3. Choose a common font. Times New Roman, Arial, and Verdana are some of the best fonts for a résumé. Now is not the time to experiment. Most computers do not have 600 different fonts installed so the file will not read correctly if you use your decorative fonts. Do not use cutesy graphics such as candy canes or teddy bears if you want to be taken seriously. (Yes, I have really received a résumé with teddy bears and candy canes on it.) It is NOT appropriate for business correspondence, and I guarantee your résumé will be canned if you do this.

4. Do not use the word "I" in your résumé. Start each sentence with a powerful verb. For example:

  • Organized annual student symposium by securing speakers and working closely with marketing department executives.
  • Implemented production bonus incentives and "best practices" matrix for all divisions, raising overall productivity by as much as 40 percent.

5. Write a proper cover letter for each position to which you apply. Do not ever send out a résumé without a cover letter. This is basic business etiquette. Personalize each cover letter directly to the position you are applying to. A generic cover letter will not work to your benefit. If possible, address the letter directly to a person. If you do not know the hiring manager's name, use "Hiring Manager."

6. Print your résumé and read it word-for-word. You can use the grammar and spell check function, but don't rely on it.

7. When you have a degree, list only the year that you obtained your degree. When you list your dates of attendance, many résumé scanning systems will not recognize that you obtained a degree, only that you attended college for a period.

8. Deactivate all e-mail links and Web addresses in your résumé and cover letter. To do this in Microsoft Word, highlight the link with your mouse, go to the "Insert" drop-down menu, scroll down to and click "Hyperlink", and on the lower left-hand side of this screen there should be a little button that says "Remove link." When you find it, give it a little click and voila! Alternatively, you can highlight the link with your mouse, right click on it, and scroll down to "remove link" to deactivate the link.

9. Be consistent! For example, don't list one date as 1/2005 and then list another date as 9/22/2005. List software consistently, too. MS Word and Microsoft Excel are both correct, but not consistent when used together.
